This will be the second time when hackers have targeted T-Mobile in two years.

The telecom giant T-Mobile announced on Thursday that it suffered a data breach in which hackers accessed personal information of its prepaid wireless customers.

In a statement, the company revealed that data accessed by hackers included names, phone numbers, along with their account information such as billing details. However, passwords or financial data was not accessed.

Although the scale of the breach and who was behind it is unknown, in a conversation with CNet, T-Mobile said that only “a very small single-digit percentage of customers” were affected. The company has already notified targeted customers and law enforcement for investigation.

Our Cybersecurity team discovered and shut down malicious, unauthorized access to some information related to your T-Mobile prepaid wireless account. We promptly reported this to the authorities. T-Mobile said in its statement.

T-Mobile has also urged affected customers to confirm or update the personal identification number (PIN/passcode) on their T-Mobile account as additional protection.

This, however, is not the first time when T-Mobile has suffered a data breach. In August 2018, the company acknowledged that it suffered a breach in which unknown hackers stole personal data of 2 million customers including names, phone numbers, email addresses, billing zip code, account number, and account type both post and prepaid.
