Astronaut accused of identity theft, accessing estranged wife’s bank account, from International Space Station

Houston, we have a problem. It seems an astronaut allegedly committed
identify theft by accessing her estranged wife’s financial information without permission
– from the International Space Station.

Lt. Colonel Anne McClain, who recently made headlines when a
scheduled historic all-female spacewalk was scrapped because her spacesuit didn’t
fit, has been accused of identity theft and unauthorized access of financial
records after she accessed the bank account of Summer Worden, using Worden’s
login information, via a NASA computer on the ISS.

After Worden discovered the intrusion, which she contended was
motivated by McClain’s desire to get custody of Worden’s son, she reported it
to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and to NASA, according to a report
by the New York Times.

“There’s unequivocally no truth to these
claims,” McClain tweeted,
saying she has “total confidence in the IG process.” NASA’s inspector general
(IG) is investigating the charges.
